Jay James
Jay James was born in Anacostia, raised in Camp Springs, Md, attended
Surrattsville High School in Clinton, MD, and graduated in 1965.
He was matriculated at the University of Maryland during the height of
the Viet Nam build up.
In 1969, Jay graduated with a BS in Economics, a wife, son and a slot in GE’s
national Management Development Program. Motivated by his Draft Lottery number
and family considerations, he enlisted in the Army National guard in 1970 the
day after his son’s first birthday and was honorably discharged in 1976.
In 1977, Jay was relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was made Zone
Manager for Northern California for GE Capitol. In 1981, he received an MBA in
Finance from Saint Mary’s College, Moraga, Ca. After a successful 12-year
career with GE Capitol, he made the decision to become a stockbroker with EF
Hutton.
After a successful 20-year career as a stockbroker and Registered Investment
Advisor, family reasons lead to his return home to Maryland where he has worked
in the host industry and founded OC Purifiers.
On a personal note: After single parenting his son from age
4 who left the nest for the University of California San Diego, Jay moved aboard
his sailboat in
Sausalito, Ca., where he lived for 17 years prior to moving back to Maryland.
Over that time, many sailing adventures took place. The most memorable was an
18-day double-handed adventure with his son when he graduated from UCSD.
Baseball has been a big part of Jay’s life since Boys Club. He is happy
to see D.C. with a team again, still loyal to the SF Giants. He has recently
taken up surf fishing with very limited success, although being alone at Assateague
in the mornings is enough of a reason to cast a line.
Jay is a cigar aficionado, a factor in the formation of OC Purifier
